One-on-One Support from Apple

WWDC2020 was launched this week. In the past, WWDC conferences were all held in US. This year, because of COVID19 and social distance rules,WWDC is the first time on virtual web. The greatest news is that all Apple registered developers are all able to attend the WWDC without paying expensive registration, travel and hotel fees. This is first time Apple trying virtual WWDC.

On the first day, I watched the keynote speech yesterday. From my personal option, I think the virtual meeting is organized much more efficient and smooth, when transfering from one person to another. This can be done without any delay.

I watched Sean Allen's Swift News on YouTube. Among many topics about WWDC,he mentioned One-on-one Labs support, which was only available on site at WWDC. Now everything is on virtual. I quickly searched from Apple Developer's web page. It is true that one-on-one support is available on request. I made my request. I have been struggling on one UI issue for quite long time and still could not figure out any good solution. Within seconds, I got confirmation that my one-on-one support is scheduled tomorrow morning. That's awesome!

 


I have hight hope that I could get expert support directly from Apple to diagnose my issue and hope a solution would help to get the issue resolved.

Update on Jun 24 11MT: Just finished 1 on 1 labs support. I demonstrated my issue and showed what I have done in Xcode. The issue seems new to Apple support. He could not provide any solution and suggested me to submit a bug report on this issue.

The issue is that I have a screen with toolbar on bottom. There is one UIBarButton there. Most of time, the button shows normally. However, after a while, it would not visible when the screen brought up. I noticed that the issue is related to iPhone without physical Home button, ie, my Xr. The button still reacts to tap action even when it is invisible. It looks like that the button's tint color is as same as toolbar color, which causes button invisible.

iOS 11 New Feature: Displaying Large Size Content

iOS 11 introduce many great features. One of them is display large size content, for example, text and images. With small size of mobile devices, for many people it is really hard to read small text or content. With this new feature in iOS 11, I want to support it in my app.

One new change is the large size title in navigation control. Another one is dynamic size for text views. PDF format for images is also great to avoid making various size of images in project.

Learn Newest iOS and OS from WWDC 2015

WWDC 2015 had been hold at Los Angeles, from Jun 08 to 12. I was on vacation hin China during the time.  I started to watch videos when I got the news. This is the great opportunity to get in-depth information about Apple's iOS and OS updates.

I remember that I watched the videos from iTunes University in the past. Since last year, all WWDC videos are available from Web. That is, you can watch videos from web browsers. This year, Apple keeps the same way to provide videos. I like this very much. The following are snapshots of all the videos:










My first impression of WWDC 2015 is that Apple is more open than before. In the past, only keynotes are displayed with audio talk. This time, all the presenters are also visible as they were on stage.

This year I have more time available to watch videos since no more contact work for the time being. I had to watch them during my lunch and evening times after work. I list all the videos I watched in the following table.

WWDC 2013

Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, WWDC, 2013 was held from June 10-14 at San Francisco. It has been over already for 2 weeks. This time, the session videos of technical talks was available right on the second day of the conference. The first time, all the talks are available directly from web browser. I started learning and watching all the shows. This saves my time to download shows and disk spaces as well.

The convenience of on-line shows is that it will automatically adjust video quality depending on demands. I don't need to get HD in order to watch the clear videos. There is additional option to get HD, SD and PDF. Since what I need to get the content, I have not bothered to do any downloading.

Finished Watching WWDC2012 Videos

Today I finished watching all available WWDC 2012 videos. There 111 video talk shows. I downloaded them in SD format, which are good enough. To view outlines, I found that I can go to HD area to get PDF files. In this way, I can separate videos from PDF files.

WWDC 2012 shows in iTunes grouped in serials. I started from 400 serial, Developer Tools, with 14 shows. Then 700 serial, Core OS, has 14 shows. 200 serial has 42 shows, which is the largest group. Next is 500, with 24 shows in Graphics , Media and Games. 300 serial is for App services, with 11 shows. The last serial, 600, has 6 shows.

I took some notes in Chinese for the first two serials. I cannot keep taking notes for all of the shows.

WWDC 2012 Videos Available Now

Today I got news about WWDC 2012 Videos available from Apple's Development site from Weibo. I will be busy to watch all those training videos. The following is the snapshot of iTunes.



Today I only downloaded the first section: Developer Tools with total 28 tracks (14 videos and 14 PDF  slides). HDs are nice but they take too much space and download bandwidth. I only got SD instead, good enough for my, and much quick and less space.

iOS 6 coming in WWDC 2012

According to the news from AppleInsider, iOS will be announced at WWDC 2012. This is really a welcome news. I have witnessed the evolution of iOS from it start. iOS was really good change with many improvements. For example, I like the storyboard very much. The storyboard makes the development much easy in terms of overall UI layout and workflow.



I guess there will be many great new changes in iOS 6.0. What I want the most is the generic template. It seems to me that I cannot define a generic protocol with generic in iOS or Objective-C, something like:

where myAbstractInterface is a template, T and T1 are a generic data types.

Currently, I have use concrete class types for T and T1. I hope Apple would make this feature available so that it makes true OO design much easier. Apple iOS architecture designers may have their own reason not to implement generics in this way, or they may introduce generics with difference strategies, or more efficient and elegant framework.

I'll keep close eye on the coming WWDC in just about 2 days.

Finished Watching WWDC 2011 Videos

Today I finished watching all the WWDC 2011 videos. I spent most of after-work hours to watch those shows. It is good to get an overall view of all the technologies used in iOS 5, even some I may not use at all and some are hard to digest.

I also started to write my notes in Chinese about WWDC 2011 shows. However, the notes are far more behind my watching schedule. I could not keep up my notes with my watching progress, and eventually I decided to left go behind. Right now my notes are close to the end of 100 serials. They are still 200, 400 and 500 serials to be written. I think it is good review when I write notes, and I'll keep it up to the end.

Finished Watching WWDC 2011 Videos in -Halfway

In the past weeks, I have been in a fast-paced way to watch WWDC 2011 videos. Right now I have finished 100(App Frameworks), and 300(Developer Tools) serials. Still three sections left: 200(Core OS, 13), 400(Graphics, Media and Games, 24), and 500(Internet and Web, 19).

I have also made some nodes in my Chinese blogs about WWDC 2011.

WWDC exposed more detail changes in iOS and Mac OS with new framework and APIs. For example, full screen feature is a very nice thought designed bases on iOS. Windows have full screen since its start, Windows 3.0. However, Mac OS full screen has more support from its core internal. App's will receive many events such as willXXX and didXXX for full screen status. With those events, app developer can prepare UI for better user experience and usage. In terms of OS, the full screen has consistency UI for full screen such as enter, exist and keyboard shortcuts. Full screen apps flow fluently in Mac OS.

Another group of great features are auto-save and versions. Those features are backed by app with Cocoa new APIs. Basically, this is a repository for software source codes, but it has been expanded to Mac OS app. It will be up to app developer to implement the feature. Save and versions are integrate part of Mac OS. As one of Apple software engineering in one session about this topic said, what is if further of Mac OS Cocoa? It may be the long time Quit will be gone. Users will not need to take care apps in Mac OS. Since everything will be auto-saved, why should apps with those features stay in OS when they are not in use? This will greatly enhance the experience of using Mac with great resources releases by inactive apps.

WWDC 2011 Videos Available for Apple Developers

According to the news from AppleInsider, Apple released all the WWDC videos for Apple Mac OS and iOS developers. I went to the Apple Devleoper site and I started to download videos right away. There are about 110 videos in various categories. Based on OS X and iOS there are 155 contents.

I have been anxiously expecting for those session videos for a while. Now I will be very busy to watch those videos, evenings and weekends. Last year I took months to finish all of WWDC 2010 videos, and I enjoyed watch them very much. Apple's OS and iOS technology are really very impressive.
